由于具有Z小化背反射和散射光的能力，吸收中性密度（ND）濾光片是校準的理想選擇。與金屬類型相反，吸收型濾光器通過吸收基板內(nèi)的光來實現(xiàn)其光密度。因此，厚度是不透明度的關鍵決定因素。由于其吸收質(zhì)量，這些濾波器僅適用于低功率應用。
Andover吸收式ND濾光片的*之處在于它們采用增透膜涂層以減少表面反射。這使得它們能夠堆疊而不用擔心由于多次反射造成的損失和偽影。
